grading practices & policies
In order to avoid confusion, as to how I grade our Middle School students at SCPA, I feel it's only fair to give parents an idea of the things I focus on when grading your children's work in the 6th, 7th & 8th-grade Art courses I teach at SCPA. Recognizing that not every Middle School student has an interest in the Visual Arts, I place a lot of emphasis on the following:
Since students are curious at the end of the year about opportunities to earn extra credit, I will offer extra credit to any student who creates a portfolio. Visit this page, follow the directions (listen to the audio file on the lower right side), and send your results to me via the Contact page on this site (by copying & pasting the URL into the "Comments" portion of the form. Make sure to identify yourself by what class you are in, what grade, and if you're using your own email address or your parents'.
NOTE: "Extra" in credit denotes that all assignments have been completed. Extra Credit does not replace an assignment, it is additional work, provided for students who want an opportunity to bump their grade up a notch. Extra credit accounts for 10% of a student's overall grade during the semester.
- Listening when I speak
- Following directions
- Diligently, consistently working on assignments
- Turning in assignments on time
- Not distracting other students with excessive talking
